Syls Club News - April 2021

Return To Training
Return To Training

The Government announcement that, with ongoing reduction of Covid numbers, there is hope that our juvenile boys and girls can make a long awaited return to training in. On-contact pods. It’s much needed news following a particularly tough Winter months when everyone has been feeling the worst of the restrictions. We hope the return can go ahead as planned with everyone’s continued effort and that news of our adult training return is not long afterwards.

Support for Facilities Group in Broomfield

We are actively seeking volunteers to help our small facilities team look after our assets in Broomfield.

The commitment would be for a couple of hours each month helping the team with small improvement works, facilitating access for contractors etc

If you are interested or know of anyone who would be able to help, please contact Aidan Lillis – 085 7718612

Club Playing Facilities

Under the GAA COVID 19 directive all of our playing facilities remain closed. Unfortunately, in recent weeks we have experienced continued widespread use of the AWP by large groups of members and non-members for casual usage, much of this facilitated by individuals who have access to keys to open up this facility. As a consequence, we have been forced to change locks to Pitch #1 and the AWP. These locks will remain in place until at least the 26th April.

Minor Hurling Manager

We are still urgently seeking a manager for this vital team for the 2021 season. We do have a number of volunteers who will help support the group however still have no expressions of interest.

We would again encourage any individuals who could help to make contact as soon as possible.

Broomfield Sports Campus

We have recently submitted another grant claim under the Sports Capital Grant Programme. This is focused on the continued development of Pitch #1 and the AWP.

Strong feedback has been received from across the club about the poor quality of the playing surfaces on the remaining areas of Broomfield – particularly in respect to the growth in our juvenile games playing numbers and the emergence of our Camogie section. Consultations with Fingal CC continue and the Executive hope to be in a position to engage the membership in the coming months.

Church Road

Whilst the club premises on Church Road remain closed, we are continuing to invest in this key club facility.

The current activity is focused on upgrading the preservation infrastructure and will be completed in the next few weeks.

We look forward to some date in the future when we can welcome our members back into the building.
