Syls' U21A footballers capped off an incredible season with a decisive win over O'Dwyers to claim the U21C Championship title.
The first half was a tense and evenly matched battle. O'Dwyers opened the scoring with a series of well-taken points, capitalising on Syls' early missed opportunities. Despite the slow start, Syls struck back when a free kick ricocheted off the post and fell perfectly to Rory Guidan, who slotted it into the net to give Syls their first score of the game. However, O'Dwyers responded a few mi utes later with a goal of their own, levelling the momentum.
Some questionable refereeing decisions added to the tension as neither team could fully capitalise on their chances. As the half progressed, Syls regained control when Cian Whitney intercepted an O'Dwyers kick-out and set up Dan O'Leary, whose blistering pace and clinical finish secured Syls’ second goal. O'Dwyers continued to add points to stay in contention, but Syls edged ahead by a single point at halftime.
Syls came out for the second half brimming with confidence. While both teams started cautiously, the Malahide men seized the initiative, showcasing their attacking prowess with quick runs and clever passing interplay. Jack Mangan and Ross Keogh added two brilliant goals, while Syls kept the scoreboard ticking with crucial points.
O'Dwyers couldn't add to their first goal tally in the second half, with the Syls defence standing strong and limiting their scoring opportunities. The final whistle confirmed a well-deserved victory for Syls, with a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-8.
A big well done to the entire U21 management team for their incredible efforts in bringing the cup to Malahide. Well done, lads! The celebrations are still going strong today, marking an unforgettable triumph for this talented group of players.
Unfortunately, the U21B team narrowly lost out to Trinity Gaels in their semi-final, but congratulations to them on a fantastic campaign and representing Syls so well throughout the competition.
