A busy weekend of action saw Syls teams across all levels put in determined performances, with plenty of positives to take forward.

Senior Men

Our Senior Men hosted Oliver Plunketts in AFL1 and faced an uphill battle at halftime, trailing 0-4 to 2-7. However, a spirited second-half display saw them increase their points tally,  with 10-15 minutes left. Despite the effort, Plunketts ran out winners 2-11 to 8 points, but the resilience shown in the second half will give the lads plenty to build on.

Minor Hurlers Give It Everything Against Lucan

In MHL1 action, our Minor Hurlers went toe-to-toe with a strong Lucan Sarsfields side. At halftime, it was all square at 1-10 apiece, but with the wind in their favor, Lucan pulled away in the second half, finishing 4-22 to 2-13. The scoreline didn’t reflect the battle our lads put in, showing real grit against a full-strength Lucan outfit.

Senior Ladies Open Season with a Win

A winning start for the Senior Ladies, who dug deep to secure a 1-7 to 0-8 victory in their opening game. "Solid performance, good start to the season. We look forward to the next match," said Senior Manager Dave Ryan. A great platform to build on as they look ahead to the next challenge.

Football Féile – Cup & Shield Challenges Await

It was a big day for our Féile squads, with Team 1 advancing to the Cup Féile Semi-Final despite a 3-11 to 5-13 defeat to Round Towers, thanks to two earlier wins. Meanwhile, Team 2 and Team 3 will compete in the Féile Shield, having battled hard but fallen short in their final games.

Team 2 put in a determined performance but were edged out by a single score against St. Mary’s. Despite the loss, they showed great resilience and will take plenty of lessons from the game, particularly in dealing with the physical and tactical battles that come with Féile football. With a strong squad and the right mindset, they now turn their focus to the Shield competition, where a real opportunity for silverware awaits.

Plenty still to play for, and all three teams will be ready to give it their all in the next stage.

In Other Games

AFL4 – A tight battle saw St Sylvesters fall just short against Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels, losing 2-14 to 2-12. A strong effort from the lads, but just edged out in the end.

U16B Div 7 – A fantastic start to the league campaign as Syls U16B secured a 3-9 to 2-7 victory against a strong Garristown side. A fast-paced game with plenty of skill and tough tackling, setting a great foundation for the season ahead.

A Weekend of Grit & Determination

It was a weekend where results didn’t always go our way, but the effort, fight, and commitment from all Syls teams were undeniable. Plenty of positives, plenty to build on, and plenty still to play for in the weeks ahead.
