Today marked a special and emotional moment in the history of St. Sylvester’s as we said a heartfelt thank you to one of the most beloved figures in our club — Padraig “Panner” McCarthy — who finished up his final day with us at this year’s last summer camp.
Surrounded by a sea of smiling Juvenile boys and girls, Panner was given a proper Syls send-off: cheers, laughs, and a special presentation to recognise his incredible contribution to our club over the past three decades.
Since 1993, Panner has been a constant force of positivity and dedication; coaching, organising, mentoring, and always showing up with trademark humour and heart. From the smallest nursery players to our senior squads, his work has touched every part of the club. Whether leading summer camps, coaching school teams, welcoming new families or nurturing young players into confident athletes and people — Panner’s influence has been felt far beyond the pitch.
It’s especially fitting that, in the same summer we celebrate 30 years of Ladies Football at Syls, we also honour the man who helped lay so much of that foundation. His support and encouragement of girls' football at a time when it was just beginning in our club helped create a lasting legacy.
While Panner jets off for a well-deserved break, we know he’ll never be far from Broomfield. And we’ll be all the better for it.
From everyone at St Sylvester’s - past and present, thank you, Panner ! You’ve given this club your all, and we are forever grateful.
Enjoy your holiday. You’ve earned it. 💙💚
